THE STORY
My grandpa grew up as a red-headed only child in rural Illinois. He began working on his family farm when he was 8 years old. He farmed corn, soybeans and raised pigs. He loved the song, “Rhinestone Cowboy,” dancing to Polka music, baseball caps, the Chicago Bulls and butterscotch candies. My parents still live on his farm and his fields are still planted and harvested every year. “Sheldon” is my grandpa’s middle name, but he was always Bompa to us.
